Merveilleux

Beautifully renovated house in an idyllic Charente village setting.
Points positifs : We loved the location, exactly what we were looking for - a beautiful, tranquil village setting, a couple of minutes walk to the Vienne river. The house has been renovated beautifully and was spotlessly clean. It was very spacious and we appreciated the mix of old and new. The owner John was very clear with communication and was available to contact if we had any queries, which was really helpful. He was also accommodating with a later checkout due to our late flight departure which we very much appreciated.
Points négatifs : The addition of hand towels for the bathroom/toilet would be handy.

We loved staying at Chateau-une and hope to return again next year.
Points positifs : Chateau-une is beautiful fully restored French period property. It is full of character and charm and is set within a historic village with views of the medieval castle. Being set in quiet location you may wonder what there is for a family yet we were pleasantly surprised to discover many things to keep the family entertained with activities such as cycling, swimming and water sports all within easy reach. The village has two good eateries - a café set within the park by the river offering pizzas, burgers and pork dishes. On the opposite side there is a more formal restaurant serving a wide range of delicious food including fish and vegetarian options. We enjoyed a meal here celebrating our 20th Wedding Anniversary. Deliveries of fresh bread and croissants arrive in a van most mornings - listen out for the toot at around 8.30am.

10/10!!
Points positifs : Fantastic Property - the house was beautiful, full of character, clean and comfortable. The village/location very nice and not far from the Val de Vienne Racing circuit where our team was competing. The owner was extremely helpful and provide lots of information, making sure we were completely confident and comfortable the entire stay. We will definitely stay here again the next time we race at this circuit. Brian, Aston Martin Racing

Marvellous stay in a medieval house in a beautiful, relatively undiscovered part of France
Points positifs : Chateau-une is a beautifully presented and unique place to stay. We loved staying there.. It had the wow factor the minute we walked in the door and just kept wowing as we explored every room. Loved that we were in an authentic medieval building with all the features- oak beams and floors, featured stonework, etc.. yet had all the mod cons- beautiful bathrooms for each of the three large bedrooms (the master bedroom was luxuriously spacious!), comfy beds, well equipped kitchen, a good sized island bench, a drinks fridge, excellent wifi and relaxing couches. It was in a quiet location, yet just a couple of minutes walk from both the scenic Vienne river and a good restaurant with an extensive wine cave. The ancient ruins of the 15th century château on the cliff behind the village made for an intriguing walk and impressive views too. There's lots to see and do in the area and we would love to return for a longer stay.
Points négatifs : The microwave was faulty, but we contacted the owner, who was most responsive, and he is replacing it...
